Today we will take a look at how the cheapest way to obtain healthy skin might actually be to splurge on a premium product, and how buying those bargain skincare items might actually be one of the costliest mistakes you don’t realize you are making.

When you buy a skincare product at the pharmacy or department store, you may not know it, but you are essentially buying a bottle of chemicals. 

All of the oils and perfumes and healthy sounding extracts smell wonderful and may even make your skin feel quite nice for a while, but the secret is that they are wreaking havoc on your skin. 

Some companies do this in order to make a cheaper product and some do it so that you will continue buying the product to undo the damage the product itself is actually causing. 

Clearly this is not going to be the most effective skincare.  The reality is that there are completely natural products out there that can truly reverse signs of aging and end dry skin, you just have to find them.

In all my research into skincare products, I have come up with one astounding conclusion.  The most effective skincare products are not in my local stores.  Instead, they are on the Internet, and at their manufacturer, waiting for someone like me to stumble upon them and realize the truth behind the science. 

Trust me, over the last 10 years I have used them all, and finally found the most effective skincare products.

There are products out there that use real proteins, such as Functional Keratin to actually reduce fine lines, rather than offering a synthetic keratin that cannot be used by human skin but does wonders in making a product sound effective. 

Truly effective skincare companies conduct extensive research with their money rather than waste it on advertising, and they sell their own products rather than leaving the stores to ad on money for profit.  

These products may take some searching, and they may cost a little bit more, but they have one advantage over every product I have ever bought in the store: they work. 

In retrospect, the forty dollars or so I spend on one bottle of cream to moisturize my skin and stop redness and irritation is far less expensive than the ten dollars or so a week I spent on products that only served to make my skin worse. 

I never thought I would utter these words, but in all honesty, it is better to spend more money on one truly good product than to spend less on something that only looks effective. In this case, premium skin care really is the most effective skincare.

With so many anti-aging skincare products on the market for women, why do companies seem reluctant to offer men anti-aging skincare? Today we will look at the men's skincare products that typically line the shelves and discuss what men should really be looking for when choosing a product to combat the signs of aging.

Certainly women are not the only people who begin to show signs of aging, but sometimes it seems that the market is flooded with anti-aging products that are geared only toward the female sex. The few products that are available for men are often pricey and offer little lasting result.

The most important factor to look for in a men's skincare product is that it is an all natural product developed specifically for men. The reason you should look for an all natural product is that the body can only recognize and use minerals and proteins that it would come across naturally. Chemicals and other fillers are simply expelled as waste, though a large percentage of them travel through your bloodstream first after being absorbed by the skin. This is one thing that many consumers do not realize when putting chemical laden products onto their skin. As soon as you let something be absorbed into your skin, it is the same as if you had eaten it, which means that if your skincare product contains something you would not consider safe to eat, it is also not safe to rub onto your skin. Chemicals in these products have been linked to a host of illnesses and conditions.

Natural minerals and proteins are recognized and used by the skin to moisturize and to combat roughness, lines, and wrinkles. Formulas made specifically for men are designed to treat skin differently than formulas for women do. Men are hormonally different than women, and tend to have rougher skin and blemishes. Not me you say, despite the fact that this is probably what you're doing right now if you're using one of the many mainstream skincare products on your face. After all, a large percentage of the population, particularly women of course, is aging and is concerned about skin health and the appearance of aging skin and everything that goes with that, including wrinkles and lines around our eyes, bags, spots and any one of the other various afflictions that is a result of the aging process on our skin. We have to do something about that, don't we?

And of course our skin is porous, and so much of what we put on it ends up inside our bodies, just as if we had eaten it. So if smearing a skincare product on our face is akin to eating it, are the mainstream skincare products safe to eat?

What exactly are these skin care companies putting in all those creams and cleansers and moisturizers and all those other skincare products out there that we're putting on our skin? Well lets have a look at just a few of the ingredients that are found in some or most of the most common anti aging products on the shelves for us to choose from.

Parabens. These are used generally as a preservative in our skin care products, and studies have suggested that they can cause cancer.

Triclosan. Used in weed killers. Classified by the EPA as a probably human carcinogen.

"Fragrances" which can refer in general terms to one or more of thousands of various chemicals, some of which have been shown to cause depression and hyperactivity and can affect our nervous system. And worse. Many can contain Toluene, made from petroleum or coal tar with links to anemia and other effects on the body.

And that's just 3, there's a stack more chemical products contained in your average mainstream skincare products, some quite nasty. If you don't believe me just Google them or check them on Wikipedia.

So now you don't want to use skincare products any more? Well there is an alternative of course. That's high quality skincare products made from all natural ingredients that are known to be safe enough to eat, and to smear on our skin. Effective, and not likely to make us regret the fact that we've used them.

We just have to be sure we make some informed choices when we make our next purchase of a skincare or antiaging product.

Don't get me wrong. I believe that taking care of our skin is one of the most important things we can do to promote our heath. What's for Dinner?

The best 100% pure skincare cream contains compounds derived from the foods that we eat, because your face needs nourishment, too. But, if you really want to practice holistic skincare, you have to realize that all of our bodily functions are interconnected.

So, what you eat can really affect the way that you look. If you eat a lot of fried foods or a lot of animal fat, you will be more likely to have excessive oiliness and pimples. The best dietary choices include vegetables and cold-water fish, such as salmon.

Salmon provides the essential fatty acids necessary to maintain a healthy moisture level, but not the kind of fat that clogs your arteries and your pores. A vegan diet can be very healthy, as long as you include avocados, which are also rich in fatty acids, and kelp, which is rich in calcium and other minerals. Also, remember to take your vitamins. You'll be happier with the way you look and feel.

What's in the Water?

One of the major steps towards holistic skincare is to increase your intake of pure water. But, most of us have chlorine in our water, so a kitchen purifier is essential. You cannot trust those bottled brands. Even the bottles are a source of contamination.

100% pure skincare creams should only contain purified water and you should not be showering in chlorinated water. Chlorine is very drying.

What Works, What Doesn't?

I have seen holistic skincare products that work, but many of them don't, particularly when it comes to anti-aging. In order to protect yourself from skin cancer, as well as wrinkles, you want to look for "antioxidant" anti-aging products. The most important ingredients include coenzyme Q10 and natural vitamin E.

100% pure skincare creams containing these antioxidants have been shown to counter free radical damage and prevent further damage from occurring. But, you have to look for a company that knows what they are doing. If not properly formulated, a topic cream may be ineffective.

Products you can Trust?

The major cosmetic companies like to use certain advertising slogans like "a name you can trust". But, can you really trust them. I would have to say "no".

They continue to use hazardous compounds, unsafe preservatives and added fragrances, even though the industry is moving in a more natural direction. The big brand names have tried to attract the holistic skincare market by claiming to include antioxidants, botanicals and other things that sound safe and natural.

But, if you read the list of ingredients, you will see that things like green tea and ginseng are at the very bottom of a long list of chemical compounds. In my opinion, health supplement companies are the best choice for 100% pure skincare solutions. It just makes sense.

While doing this, they have found that many of the age-old remedies are scientifically sound. So, today, we can combine the best natural skincare solution with a scientific system skincare regimen and end up with effect products that support the skin's natural rejuvenation processes and counter the signs of aging. Let's look at a few of the details.

Wakame Kelp

Wakame extracts must be included in any scientific system skincare cream. It contains every vitamin and mineral that is important to the skin's health. It was originally introduced in the US during the macrobiotic movement of the 1960s. It became even more popular in the 1970s has the number of Japanese restaurants and sushi bars rose.

Until I started doing the research, I never thought that I would see honey mentioned as part of a scientific system skincare routine. As a native remedy, I was aware of the traditional usage. It was given for sore throats, applied to burns, stings and other injuries. Now, we know why it worked.

Honey enzymes have antibacterial and antioxidant activity. Antibacterials prevent and heal infections. Antioxidants repair damage done on a cellular level. Because of its low water content, it promotes healing of tissue damage. It has been shown to fade scars and stretch marks.

There are thousands of different varieties of honey, each with its own taste and chemical makeup. Researchers have identified manuka honey as the most active and effective for the skin.

Jojoba

Jojoba is one of the best natural skincare moisturizers around. It's almost like liquid wax. It was used historically to treat burns and other injuries. Researchers have shown that it has a dual moisturizing affect on the skin. It penetrates deeply, and then dries to a clear film that locks the moisture in. This also prevents dirt and grime from entering the pores and dulling the appearance.

Other scientific system skincare ingredients that are naturally occurring include Functional Keratin, coenzyme Q10, vitamin E, grape seed oil, passion fruit extract, palm oil, olive oil and Shea butter. Now, I'm not talking about the line of products by "Academie de beaute". I don't know what ingredients those products contain. They do not fully disclose them on their website. I would never buy anything, unless I could read the full list of ingredients ahead of time, in the comfort of my own home.

Your skin becomes more delicate with age and damage is more likely to become permanent. Exfoliating, chemical peels and acidic toners should be avoided for aging skincare. I don't even recommend them for youngsters.

With regular use, they increase sensitivity to sunlight and UV damage. They cause redness and inflammation. They damage the outermost layer, the epidermis, and in older people the damage can become permanent.

When rating skincare products, some experts will only recommend cosmetics that contain a sunscreen compound. I'm on the other side of this debate, as well.

We need to protect ourselves from sunburns and UV damage, but we also need vitamin D. There are an increasing number of elderly people with vitamin D deficiencies. One reason that has been sited is the prevalent use of sunscreens on a daily basis.

So, when I am rating skincare products highly, they don't have an SPF rating. They may contain natural ingredients that provide some protection from UV damage, but that's it. You need to be logical when you are exposed to the sun. If you rely too heavily on a sunscreen, you'll spend too much time unprotected outdoors.

For effective anti aging skincare, you need nutrients. That's right, the same things that you take every morning to insure that you are meeting your daily nutritional requirements. But, these nutrients most be applied directly.

I enjoy rating skincare products that contain things like wakame kelp. This edible seaweed is actually a type of algae. We have learned over the years that algae and seaweed extracts are highly beneficial in skin care creams and lotions. Wakame is likely the MOST beneficial of all varieties.

Alone, it contains practically every vitamin and mineral needed to maintain the skin's moisture levels. It also contains an element that protects the natural protein levels, as well. Anti aging skincare should focus on maintaining protein levels, as they naturally decline with age.

The highest rated creams, in my book, contain wakame and a variety of other safe and natural ingredients, including grape seed oil, Functional Keratin, coenzyme Q10, vitamin E, passion fruit extract and palm oil.

Grape seed oil is particularly beneficial for repairing damage to skin around the eyes. It has a filming ability that is unique among vegetable oils. This film helps to lock moisture in.

When I'm rating skincare products, I only look at the ones that are free of artificial preservatives. Ingredients like vitamin E and grape seed oil effectively preserve the other natural oils and extracts, preventing them from becoming rancid and extending their shelf life.

Each of the ingredients mentioned above provides unique benefits for aging skincare. I just can't cover them all here. As long as you look for safe and natural compounds, you'll be in the ballpark.

I have been amazed by all of the terrible adverse reactions that are caused by the inclusion of hazardous ingredients in these products. You wouldn't think that cosmetic companies would be allowed to include these ingredients. At the very least, you would think they would be required to include a warning label, as food products do today.

You must be thinking to yourself, what has gone wrong with me.......................... for some reasons, you age much faster than your friend.

Of course, there might be due to genetic factor which was beyond our control, but that does not mean that's nothing you can do to slow down the aging process. You can't defy the aging process, but you can fight the wrinkles and age spots that accompany them. There are instant methods to aging skincare such as skincare cosmetic or cosmetic surgery. We are not going to touch on cosmetic surgery here but briefly on skincare cosmetic.

There are plenty of skincare cosmetics for wrinkle remedies in the market, but I am only going to name a few. One of it is the cream that fill the crease of wrinkle or sealing it. So wrinkle will appear to be smoothen. Another wrinkle remedy is in the form of sticker. Before you retire to bed, stretch the skin where the wrinkle are and paste the sticker on it. The next morning just remove it and the wrinkle will disappear. Sadly to say, these cosmetics skincare remedies are all on temporary basis, the wrinkle will reappear when you remove the make up or, after few hours removing the sticker, wrinkle will just reform.

However, if you were to follow these steps, you will be able to keep your skin looking as young as you feel, on a long term basis.

UV ray from the sun will cause wrinkles and age spots on your skin. Always apply sunscreen with at least SPF of 15 which will effectively block the UV ray. Application of sunblock cream will be different for face and other parts of the body. Wearing long sleeve shirt or blouse, long pant or skirt and hat will even help to block the UV ray from causing damage to your skin.

Be more alert and aware of the ingredients in your anti aging skincare products. Avoid synthetic chemicals, fragrances and some irritating substances. Always choose the natural skincare products. Spend sometimes to read the label and ask question if you are not sure about the ingredients which will go the long way.

Use moisturizer for your face and lotion for hands and legs in the dry and cold environment. Maintaining the skin’s moisture balance is one of the important factor in aging skincare practices. The fact is wrinkle will look worse when compounded by dry skin.

Use the proper cleanser to clean your skin twice daily, especially the face which is more delicate. Alpha hydroxyl acids which are derived from fruit, milk or sugar has the bleaching and exfoliating effect on skin. Causing the surface skin cells to slough off, revealing newer, less damaged skin cells beneath. Always use natural toner to close the pores after cleansing and follow up with moisturizer.

During night time, it is advisable to use night cream as it is thicker. Avoid using day cream with SPF at night as added sunscreen ingredients can cause irritation or breakouts. For convenient sake, you can use face cream without SPF for both day and night and have a separate sunscreen layer applied during the day.

Watch your diet, reduce intake of oily and deep fried foods and increase the consumption of high fiber fruits and vegetables. Drink sufficient water in the day time but stop drinking water 2 hours before sleep to reduce water retention. Try to avoid staying up late putting more stress on your skin.

If you were to follow the above aging skincare tips strictly for weeks, you will notice the great difference on your physical appearance. The next time you bump into an old friend that you have met for a long time, your friend will prompt you with the same question; "You younger than before, can you share your aging skincare tips with me?" I am sure you will be more happy to do that.

Lets take a look at the commonly found chemicals in the non holistic skincare products such as Parabens which are commonly used in cosmetics to protect them against microbial growth, both to protect consumers and to maintain product integrity. When used in skin care products, parabens are absorbed directly into the blood stream rather than through the gastrointestinal tract. Some tests have indicated that parabens have caused an increase in estrogen which can possibly affect the male and female reproductive organs. Low sperm count and a decrease in testosterone are directly related to the intake of parabens. As for women, the major concern is the effect of parabens on breast cancer. Several studies have found traces of parabens in women with breast cancer.

Fragrances is another ingredient to avoid if you want a 100% pure skincare product. Of course, a well scented skin care product is very appealing on the surface. But the dangerous chemicals contain in most fragrances irritate your skin or worse still, can lead to some unknown diseases.

Dioxane is another carcinogenic contaminant of cosmetic products. Almost 50% of cosmetics containing ethoxylated surfactants were found to contain dioxane. An eye and mucous membrane irritant, primary skin irritant and central nervous system depressant. Acute exposure causes irritation, headache dizziness and narcosis which might has damaging effect on liver, kidneys and blood disorders.

The word was created by an advertiser in 1953. It just means having a decreased tendency to provoke an allergic reaction -- such as hypoallegenic cosmetics. It's supposed to refer to products that won't cause you allergic reactions. But whether it's hypoallegenic skincare or hypoallergenic skincare, the word has no medical or scientific meaning.

It SOUNDS scientific. That's why it was invented, and why it's found all over the cosmetic world. But it's just an advertising claim. If you want to avoid allergic reactions, can you buy good hypoallegenic skincare products? Absolutely. I'll tell you about some great ones. But try to have a sense of humor about the meaningless claims and meaningless words you see.

Here's my very favorite question and answer from one of my favorite hypoallegenic skincare manufacturers:

Q: Are the products Non-Comedogenic?

A: Yes

That's it. No long-winded claims, just YES.

In case you're asking, "What's Non-Comedogenic?" well, I don't blame you. It's another invented word, but it means that the skincare product won't block pores, and therefore won't cause inflammation or encourage pimples.

This manufacturer doesn't even USE the word "hypoallegenic" or "hypoallergenic" -- probably because everybody uses it and it doesn't really mean anything.

If you're looking for hypoallegenic skincare, you need to avoid ingredients that cause allergic reactions. And here are some tips:

1. Avoid these ingredients, some of the most common found in so-called "hypoallegenic skincare" products: petrolatum or petroleum jelly (the ingredient in Vaseline), liquid paraffin, paraffin wax, or any mineral oil -- all of them clog the pores and strip the natural oils from the skin; PEG (polyethylene glycol), parabens (methyl, butyl and ethyl paraben) and acrylamide -- all can cause inflammation and are suspected carcinogens.

2. Look for a product whose ingredients have been tested in clinical studies. And not just one ingredient; if all ingredients haven't been tested for safety and effectiveness, what are they doing in a hypoallegenic skincare product?

3. Check that the manufacturer has been keeping up with the latest science in skin care. It's not your job to track the research -- you have a busy life, after all. But the manufacturer should say -- in simple English -- exactly what's in their product, and why each ingredient is there.

Preservatives are necessary in lotions, creams and other health and beauty aids, but the artificial ones are common allergens. Naturally occurring vitamin E and grape seed extract can effectively preserve oils and botanicals, without causing allergic reactions.

The average hypoallergenic skincare creams simply contain a "different" artificial preservative; different from the one that they use in their regular products. The most common preservatives, even found in products developed by dermatologists, are parabens.

After reports concerning the fear that parabens could play a role in cancer, paraben-free skincare products hit the market. But, most of them still contain an artificial preservative that is even more likely to cause adverse and allergic reactions. So, if the label only says paraben-free skincare, you have to found out what preservative the company is using.

When you need hypoallergenic skincare, you also need fragrance-free products. There are thousands of artificial fragrances and dozens of natural ones, which are commonly listed as essential oils. All of them, whether they are artificial or naturally occurring, cause allergic reactions. Essential oils can cause some really serious itching and ugly rashes.

I know that all of the terms that companies use can be confusing. "Essential fatty acids" for example are good to have in lotions and creams, but essential oils are not. The word essential can mean different things. When it comes to fatty acids, it means fatty acids that must be consumed through diet, as the body cannot create them. When it comes to essential oils, it means a solution that conveys the "essence" of the plant; essence meaning aroma. Maybe, that will help those of you that have been confused.

There is a new line of paraben-free skincare creams for the face and body that were developed by a company that is aware of all of the things that are necessary to support the skin's health and fully aware of all of the ingredients that can cause allergic and adverse reactions.

The line can truly be called hypoallergenic skincare. In fact, I would call it non-allergenic. No one is allergic to things like protein and vitamins. I doubt that anyone is allergic to grape seed oil or avocados. At least, I've never heard of it.

Not only is it a paraben-free skincare line, it is also free of artificial preservatives, added fragrances, dyes and other objectionable substances. They guarantee purity to their customers by testing each raw ingredient and each batch for contaminants like pesticides, which are often found in essential oils and other plant extracts.

The line was created for people that want to delay and repair the signs that often accompany age; things like wrinkles and lost firmness. But, it has obvious benefits for anyone, particularly those that are looking for hypoallergenic skincare creams and lotions. It's worth your time to look for it.

Dietary Recommendations

There is at least one dermatologist that believes aging skincare should include eating lots of salmon. He came up with a list of inflammatory and anti-inflammatory foods. While I agree that most people don't get enough omega 3 fatty acids, which are one of the essential nutrients found in salmon, and I know that there are natural anti-inflammatories, I think the good doctor's dietary recommendations would be difficult for most people to follow. I figure that if a recommendation is too hard, most people won't do it.

So, I just recommend a few simple changes. They are:

<ul><li>Take an omega 3 fish oil supplement every day.</li>
<li>Take a good nutritional supplement every day.</li>
<li>Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables and buy organic if you can.</li>
<li>Drink lots of purified water, a minimum of 64 ounces per day.</li></ul>

The reason that high rating skincare products contain nutrients is because of how difficult it is for the outer layer of skin to get its nourishment. Since it has no blood vessels, you have to rely on "diffusion" to nourish it and, honestly, diffusion is pretty inefficient. Using nourishing high rating skincare products is a more efficient process.

Lifestyle Factors

There are some "no-no's" in aging skincare. Don't stay out too late. Don't drink too much alcohol. Avoid cigarette smoke and other pollutants. Limit your time in the sun to 15 minutes, max, and when you have to be out for longer periods of time, use a "sun block", not a sunscreen.

When I was rating skincare products designed for daily use, I never gave a high approval rating to those that sun screening compounds, even though that's popular for aging skincare. First, if they are effective, they can lead to vitamin D deficiency, but most of them aren't effective anyway. People that rely on them too heavily, run the risk of developing skin cancer. Some of the compounds, including oxybenzone and benzophenone, are probable human carcinogens, which again increases your risk of cancer.

Nourishing Creams

In my book, the highest rating skincare products are those that are free of artificial preservatives, added fragrances, allergens, irritants and toxins. The ingredients that are beneficial to the skin's health include:

<ul><li>Functional keratin, a protein peptide complex</li>
<li>Coenzyme Q10, vitamin E and other antioxidants</li>
<li>Grape seed oil, rich in vitamin E and an effective moisturizer</li></ul>

This is not a complete list. The best aging skincare creams contain lots more, but that should get you started in the right direction.

Researchers have found what seems to be the best natural skincare solution for dryness, sagging, wrinkles, redness, inflammation and even some serious skin conditions, such as contact dermatitis. But, without scientific system skincare technology, they could not have made it available to us.

You see, there is a protein that is highly important to the skin's health. But, in its natural state, it is hard, not water soluble and so could not be absorbed by or used by the skin's cells.
