An article form Telegraph.co.uk underscores the importance of pure skincare, citing that women are likely to absorb as much as 5 lbs. of chemicals from their makeup each year.

The article further cites Richard Bence, a biochemist who has spent years researching conventional products:

"We really need to start questioning the products we are putting on our skin and not just assume that the chemicals in them are safe. We have no idea what these chemicals do when they are mixed together, the effect could be much greater than the sum of the individual parts."

Bence even believes that absorbing chemicals through the skin is more dangerous than swallowing them. Needless to say, he's a passionate proponent of pure skincare products.

Apart from the chemistry behind the case for pure skincare, it makes intuitive sense. Think of an ideal day at an upscale spa… What imagery comes to mind? Fresh water.
