Heat Coll
Heat Coll
Why is my new bedroom hotter than the rest of the house?
I just added a bedroom to my concrete block house. It has all the required R-30 insulation in the attic and insulation board in the walls, yet it is 3-4 warmer than the rest of the house which has R-11 and no insulation board. We just added a heat pump which maintains the old section of the house at 77 degrees. The new section gets up to 82 during the afternoon.and only cools down to 79 by the following morning. The house has a simple design. Two bedroom two bath, 1400 square foot with no hallways, The family room and kitchen are basically one large room.EAch bedroom is connected to each side of the family room. It was easier to coll the house when I had window units.
Rooms that have no interior connections have a better chance of being hotter, especially if they're exposed to the sun more often than any other. If the room is east or west facing, consider planting a sun break (a line of small trees) to keep the sun off that part of the house.
We have the same problem in our place; the office is always hotter than the rest, because it has an eastern exposure with no protection from the sun. We solved the problem by planting trees and installing energy efficient windows with plantation shutters.
