I bought this set as a gift to myself because it seemed like such a great deal and it is absolutely worth it!!! I normally don’t wear much makeup and my skin type is normal to combination (T-Zone). My favorite is the Eye/Lip firming cream. Not too greasy, I even wear it during the day and I’ve even noticed my boyfriend using it. The cleanser leaves the face feeling clean but not tight. A little goes a long way (this bottle will last forever). It leaves my face feeling so good that sometimes I forget to put moisturizer on. The mositurizer I use at night and unlike the other reviewer, it has not caused me to breakout at all. It is a little greasy for the day-time, in the day I use Creme de la Mer oil absorbing moisturizer. The face firming serum I usually use alone in the day or night (no set schedule). The only thing that I didn’t like with this set is that the items don’t smell very good (especially the moisturizer and the face firming serum), I can’t even describe the scent but if you’re use to things smelling good this is not it. The eye/lip firming cream has no scent. Overall, this is a great set for the price.

I was very excited to try the Philosophy Makeup Optional set. A friend of mine got it a while ago, and absolutely raved about it. I was so looking forward to sharing the experience.

However, it didn’t work out that way. I gave the kit 3 weeks, plenty of time for my skin to adjust to the new routine. And during those 3 weeks, my face just kept breaking out. I had to stop. Now I’ve got $70 worth of little-used product collecting dust in my bathroom.

To be fair, I’ve always had somewhat sensitive skin. The products in the kit are all very thick, especially the moisturizer, and I probably would have been better off with something with a lighter texture. Live and learn!

My friend is still a steadfast believer in this kit, and she looks great, so clearly it does work well for some people. But just be wary if you have sensitive skin.

I never tried the microderm peel, so my comments don’t apply to that particular item.

I’m 31 with good skin (very fair, a couple of dark spots from old zits, a couple of broken capillaries), but I can honestly say my skin hasn’t look this good since I was a teenager. I’ve been using this kit for about 2 months now, and I haven’t even had my usual PMS zit for either month. The Hope in a Tube has completely filled in my crows feet, making my eyes look like they’re 16 again.

I initally rolled my eyes at their “make-up optional” claim, but I also purchased some of their Supernatural airbrushed makeup, and at first I wore it over my usual foundation. Then one day I got a wild hair and skipped the foundation, just using the powder. Half way through the day I got to looking in the bathroom mirror at work and realized I couldn’t tell any difference in the coverage — I looked just like I had foundation on also. Since then I’ve skipped my foundation and no one at work has asked if I’m feeling okay or anything of the sort; as a matter of fact, I’ve had more than one person tell me how great I looked. I was spending $35 a bottle for makeup that I apparently no longer need! I never in a million years thought I’d stop wearing foundation!

The only drawback to these products is the smell. I’m very sensitive to smells, and the Hope in a Jar is a little on the icky side. Not bad enough to turn me off from using the product, but could certainly be improved. To compensate, I squirt on a little Falling in Love before going to bed so I can smell something pleasant as I drift off. The other products in the kit don’t have an offensive smell to me.

In summary, I am always looking for the next best product that will do what it says it will, but I’m also very thrifty. I have no problem shelling out for this kit on a regular basis. Besides, I’m already saving $35 a month by tossing my foundation!

I must say that I am so pleased with this kit that I am writing my first EVER product review! I cannot believe the complaints about the smell of the products because none of that matters when you see the results! I spent 10 years under a dermatologist’s care and never got results like this! I have suffered from moderate acne for about 13 years and have used EVERY treatment, including prescriptions (except Accutane). Nothing worked without terrible side effects until…

I started using this kit 2 weeks ago and I have a new face! I almost never used it because before trying this one I used the Acne kit which ironically almost destroyed my face! But with the acne kit came samples of the cleanser and the moisturizer so I got the urge to try them to see what would happen. Immediately I fell in love with the cleanser because it literally melted the makeup off of my face and there was no dryness or tightness afterwards. I followed this with just the moisturizer and went to bed and when I woke up I had a completely different face…after just 2 of the products! I immediately ordered the kit. To date here is what it has done for me:

-NO NEW BREAKOUTS! Currently I am breakout free…I even did not breakout during my period!

-Pores have completely dissapeared along with my blackheads!

-No more oil! I used to have the greasiest face on the planet…now I no longer have to touch up my makeup…at all during the day!

-Now that my blackheads, oilyness and and red shiny appearance has disappeared, I no longer am researching plastic surgeons for a nose job! Sounds crazy but now that my nose isn’t such a prominent feature and sits on this gorgeous canvas, I now love it…it fits my face!

-I’m 26 but was starting to get fine lines around my eyes…they are completely gone! And the hope in a tube is the best eye makeup primer in the world! Not even my eyeliner budges! Also I had tons of visible capillaries on my upper lid and dark blue areas along the corners of my eyes that now are gone! I don’t even need eye concealer!!! The skin around my eye matches the rest of my face perfectly!

-Finally, I cannot keep my hands off of my face! It is so smooth and velvety! I have had in office microdermabrasion and used home microdermabrasion systems and never…never gotten results like this!

There is one thing that I use that is not part of the kit and that is 10% benzylperoxide. That’s because I’m too scared to throw out all of my acne products, and it just so happens that that has worked the best for my acne all along. I just buy the cheapest store brand that costs less than $2…and that’s it. For those of you suffering from acne, I hope this tip works. Also, I do have one complaint. I have very fair skin, so my breakouts leave really bad red marks that stick around FOREVER! I wish this kit had something to fade red marks and age spots, as they prevent the look of “makeup optional skin.” I will say though that because I haven’t had any new breakouts, that my old ones are healing nicely and almost completely gone. Philosophy does make a bleaching serum for spots if you’re intested.

In summary, at less than $70, this kit really deserves a chance…especially for those of you with moderate acne like I had…wow it’s weird to say that in the past tense! I know it seems that it doesn’t work for everyone, but I know that if you’re reading this review that you’ve alread thrown way $100′s if not $1,000′s on products that don’t work. This one is definitely worth the chance…afterall I’ve been told all weekend long that I should be on America’s Next Top Model! I have never heard compliments like that before! Good luck everyone! I hope this helps!

All of the products in this kit are ones that I use regularly, and the price is really great! I started using Philosophy skin care a couple of years ago with a kit like this, and my skin improved so much it was just unbelievable. I briefly thought my skin was good on its own, and tried going back to my old department store beauty products, and found myself breaking out again. This kit contains the items I find absolutely essential: Purity cleanser has a very subtle lemon verbena scent and removes all makeup very easily. Hope in a Jar moisturizer has a very cool souffle texture and really hydrates the skin. Some people say they don’t like the smell, but I really do. Just these two products used regularly leave my skin very soft and free of blemishes. I have also been using the serum religiously, and based on my non-wrinkly status, it has to be working, plus I’m really impressed with the ingredients. Hope in a tube has a funny stiff texture and great ingredients that have taken away the crepe skin texture I was starting to notice around my eyes. I have never seen such a great deal on these products IN FULL SIZE, so I’m ordering this for sure.
