You must know how to clean makeup brushes properly, mainly for two different reasons. It will remove all dirt and bacteria that tend to get deposited on unclean brushes. Thus you can prevent any infection or rashes on your facial skin that may pass on from them. Besides the hygienic aspects, regular cleaning of the makeup brushes is necessary in order to retain their good shape and increase their lifespan.

There are a wide range of options available with you for cleaning up makeup brushes at home. You can find many such materials in your home that can be used for this purpose. Two such effective options are discussed below:

Baby shampoo is an excellent cleansing agent for makeup brushes. It does not have any harsh chemicals that can cause any damage to the high quality brushes made of animal hair. It works really well on lipstick brush which is difficult to clean as it tends to become sticky due to presence of emollients in lip colors. To begin with, wipe off any excess makeup from the surface of the brush with the help of a soft piece of cloth. Then place it under warm running water for a minute or two. Then apply the baby shampoo of the brush and rub it gently till you get lather. Next, rinse off the brush thoroughly by keeping it under flowing warm water from the tap. Continue to wash the brush until it becomes colorless and no trace of makeup is left behind. Alternatively, you can use a facial cleanser in the same way to wash the makeup brushes.

Another effective method of cleaning makeup brushes involves use of white vinegar. Many people prefer to use vinegar because of its disinfectant qualities. In case, your make up brushes were shared by other women, you must clean them up with vinegar once before reusing them. Dilute one part of white vinegar with 2 parts of water and keep it in a glass. Dip your makeup brushes into this solution and leave them untouched for some time. Then take them out from the solution and rinse them well with warm water.

No matter which of the two cleansing agents you select, you have to make the brush absolutely dry before you use it. Do not use any electrical dryers for drying up the wet makeup brushes. Air drying is the best option available with you. When the freshly washed makeup brush is still wet, shape its bristles so that the smoothness is restored. Then either lay it on a flat surface or hang it over an edge and leave it untouched till it dries up completely. Never keep it in standing position as it can cause damage to the bristle of the makeup brushes.

There are a number of cleaning products available in the market which are specially designed for cleaning up make up brushes. You can buy them from a local department store or beauty supply store. Using these products is pretty simple. You just have to spray the solution generously on the makeup brush first. Then take a paper towel and rub it lightly over the bristles so that no damage is caused to the delicate bristles and they start coming out from the brush. Once you wipe off the brush properly, you will find that the brush is absolutely dry. So, after cleaning with a brush cleaner, you do not have to wait for the brush to dry up. You can also use this method whenever you do not have the time at hand to wait.

Those makeup brushes that are used for application of liquid makeup like lipstick, eyeshadow or foundation should be cleaned after every use. Other brushes that are used for dry makeup can be washed once in a week. Finally, I would like to warn you that no matter how dirty your make up brushes are, never clean them in boiling water as it can ruin them permanently.

The correct choice of eye shadow can glorify the features of your eyes. Girls with deep dark blue eyes can experiment with a wide range of colors including acute shades, while girls with light blue eyes can play with milder color range. Makeup accessories are such, that you can't have them constantly scattered about on your desk, or dresser top. You need to get a little organized, and get your things all coupled together in one place. The best way to keep all your makeup items together, without the trouble of misplacing something important, is to own a makeup brush holder, or a makeup bag to be precise. Brushes are an important part of makeup, since without it, you'd be caught in a messy situation of using your fingers as substitutes (a big no no when it comes to applying makeup). Emergency situations call for such extreme measures, but if you can save yourself the trouble of doing that, why not just get a compact brush holder? You don't have a shell out money on a brush holder, you could just make one at home. If you want to sharpen your sewing skills and try a hand out at making one from home, then you'll find out soon enough on how to get started on this little project.

There's no point picking up a bunch of brushes from a cosmetic store, without knowing what each one does. Every contour of a brush is designed in such a way to give your face, eyes or lips that unique blend of colors, producing a certain look which no two brushes will do. So before we venture into how to make a makeup brush holder, we'll first briefly go through the different kinds of brushes that are available for makeup application.

A girl's best friend when it comes to makeup, has to be her concealer, especially if she's planning on whizzing out the door without anything but eyeliner, which is her second best friend by the way. It hides flaws and uplifts one's face making it look more radiant, and well, alive. This brush is used to cover up blemishes and spots that one wants to camouflage under a well picked out concealer that goes perfectly with one's skin tone. Wondering which brushes to replace or own?

Using this brush makes you even out your lipstick, keeping it within your lip lines, and corners. It gives you a clean look, making it last longer when spread out like so. The two important brushes that fall under types of lip brushes are, long handed brushes, and the retractable lipstick brush.

There are three distinct areas that eyeshadow brushes cover, and with that come three significant brushes. The first one is the angled brush, used to blend colors towards the creases of your eyes; the second one, the blending brush, is used to merge two colors of eyeshadow to give it either a softer look, or mesh two colors; and lastly a shadow brush, used to apply eyeshadow all over the lid of your eye, where the eye socket bump lies. Eyeliner brushes are those that come twisted within bottles containing liquid eyeliners, that can be applied either in thin or thick strokes depending on the brush's design. A liner brush is used to separate any eyelashes that have clumped together after mascara has been applied.

There are two kinds that come into this area of applying makeup, one being the contour brush, meant to apply blush onto one's cheekbone area; and the second one being the large powder brush, used to dust excess powder off the face for an overall even and clear look. A foundation brush is used to evenly apply a layer of foundation all over the face, eliminating that blotchy look.

For an interesting makeup brush holder pattern, we'll look into one such way of making these at home, with the convenience of even carrying these around in your handbag.

Fabric (slightly thick, two rectangles cuts in 8" by 6", use more for a bigger pouch)

After you cut out two rectangular pieces of your fabric measured eight inches by six inches, use the wider end, that is the 8 inches edge, and fold one inch of the fabric from the top, all the way to opposite end (like an envelope flap). This is where the zip will be fitted. Do this for both rectangular pieces, and then flip it over (on the wrong side of the fabric to complete work within the pouch), and place against the folded sections, your zip. Sew these 1 inch flaps over the zip top, all the way to the ends. Using your two loose ends, sew them up only where the fabric halves meet, and not all the way through. Then lift and keep it titled on one side, and pinch the opening edges out so that the fabric sticks out like little horns. Do this on all four sides and pin them down to keep these jutting out fabric horns stiff. Then sew these according to how the fabric takes shape once you've pinched them in that outward fashion. You'll have a bag that is inside out, with the zip facing you. Turn it out properly to its right side, and whatever work you've done will fall towards the inside of the pouch, leaving you with a completed makeup holder as a result.

A makeup brush holder is a great way of keeping all your important brushes together in on place. Just make sure you put it in a different compartment so that you don't have to sift through your makeup pouch to look for the right brush, if you want to also put your makeup into it as well. Binding these together or putting these in one separate pouch, away from your makeup is a smarter option. Keep it stylish.

Most of us rarely step out of our homes without an eyeliner and a lip balm, even if it's just a trip to supermarket around the corner. A look without makeup makes us feel unpolished and gauche. If you are a working woman, you sure know the importance of looking well groomed and sophisticated at the workplace. A makeup comes in handy to give you that much needed 'professional' look. Thus, your everyday makeup routine should include the essentials of looking groomed. So, here are some everyday makeup tips for you.

A fresh face is the basic requirement for any kind of makeup. So begin your day by using a good quality cleanser to remove makeup, dirt and bacteria from your face. Take a small quantity of cleanser on a cotton ball and move it in circular motions on your face. Rinse it off with cold water afterwards (cold water helps to close pores, so that your makeup doesn't enter your skin). Pat dry your face with a clean towel.

A good quality moisturizer is a must to keep your skin soft and hydrated throughout the day. Moisturizer also creates a barrier between your skin and makeup, thereby protecting it from harsh makeup ingredients. A moisturizer with an SPF over 15 can be your best bet during summer. If you have a fairly even skin or if you do not intend to use foundation, use a tinting moisturizer that can cover up light blemishes. An oil based moisturizer is best for people with dry skin and during months of winter. Whereas, people with oily, acne prone skin should go for water based moisturizers.

You may skip this step if you have even, flawless skin. However, most women need cover up of some kind to get rid of blemishes on the face. If you have only slight unevenness in your skin tone, take a part of concealer and a part of moisturizer and apply it evenly all over your face. Larger blemishes can be covered with a base foundation. Concealer should be used to cover dark circles under eyes and puffy eye bags. A cream based concealer is best as it does not accumulate in the creases of the eyes. You may highlight your cheekbones with a rosy or peach cream blush.

Eyes are your best features, hence do not forget to accentuate your eyes with an eye definition pencil. A black mascara gives your eyes the requisite amount of definition. Usually, you do not need an eyeshadow for everyday eye makeup, as everyday makeup looks subdued than party makeup. Yet, if you insist, you may go for neutral shades of eyeshadow such as pink, beige, coral etc. Avoid use of funky colors like fuchsia, lime green, purple for eyeliner and eyeshadow.

Simply applying a lipstick gives you the desired groomed look. It is of utmost importance to make your lips look healthy and plump. You may apply a lip balm for a more casual look or you may go for high shine lip gloss for a more glamorous look. Prom night is the most awaited incident in high school when you get to party in school with all your school mates for the last time as a class. Once the night is over, you don't know when and where you will be and if you will ever see those friends again. Thus prom is when everyone wants to look really good, with their best outfits, footwear, accessories and makeup.
Looking good is not at all rocket science, but it does need some sense of judgment. If you wear smokey makeup over a beautiful pink or blue dress, it's obviously not going to make you look good. Hence there are a few tips which you can follow while putting on your makeup for the prom night. Mentioned below are some such useful prom makeup tips for you, so take a look!

When you decide to wear a particular dress, you will have to decide, what shoes you will wear with it, the accessories to go with it and what you will do with your hair. And once you have decided all this, then think of your prom makeup. It doesn't have to be the most glamorous but a simple look which will go with the color of your dress and make you look pretty and ladylike. For this reason, we have put together some prom makeup tips which you can follow to help you get ready the pretty way! More on prom hairstyles.

To start with these prom makeup tips, first of all, you will need to use a proper base for your makeup. To set that base, use a foundation which matches your skin tone. If you are fair, use a lighter shade of the foundation and if you are on the darker side, use a slightly lighter shade than your skin tone. The reason for this is when you use a lighter shade, the makeup is more accentuated and you look more attractive. Apply the foundation all over the face in a uniform way, specially under the eyes to cover your dark circles. Foundation often covers all the flaws on the face and gives a plain and uniform surface for the application of makeup.

After the foundation is applied, it's time for the blush! Use a thick haired makeup brush for this, since the thicker brushes give more volume cover to the face area and spread the blush evenly over the applied area. Put a darker shade of blush on the cheeks as they look lifted up and prominent. Use only those colors and shades of blush which match your skin tone and not a complete contrast, as this may sometimes make you look comical. Blush has a slight shine to itself, so when you apply it, don't make it too dark. Then even it throughout the face, like on the forehead and the chin, with a slight dash.

You have to be very careful while choosing a lipstick or a lip gloss as many a times, you might end up misjudging your look. Use natural and simple colors for your lips. If you have a dark colored dress, go for browns, beige, light pink and purple (depending upon the dress color). But if you are wearing black or red, you can use bright cherry red lipstick as that looks very attractive and fresh. For lighter shaded dress, preferably go with light pinks, orange, peach and light chocolate colors. If the lipstick is brown or red, only then opt for a matte lipstick. Other wise, glossy looks the best.

For the finale touch of your prom makeup tips, your eyes should look the best on your face. They are the first things a person looks at and thus you have to leave an impression through them. Hence make sure you are choosing the right colors for your eye shadow. Always apply the eye shadow first and then the liner on the tips of your lashes. This way the effect of the shadow doesn't go and they look defined. After this, apply your mascara (preferably transparent and waterproof). Curl your lashes and make sure the eye makeup is uniform for both the eyes. If you are wearing a dark and bright dress, the smokey eyes look great.
